Julia Hunstein Kwitchoff
Ireceived a BFA in Metalsmithing from Washington University in St Louis Mo. and an MFA in Costume Design from San Francisco State University Theatre Arts Program. After graduation, I designed jewelry, one-of-a-kind clothing, and soft sculpture. My art was featured in shows in the United States and Canada.
Eventually my work in textiles evolved into costuming and I ventured into the theatre world for many years. During this period, I worked for Summer Repertory Theatre as Costume Director and Designer and for Santa Rosa Junior College as Costume Director and Designer, Props Designer, and Props class instructor. Addionally, I designed costumes, props, and sets for many theaters around the bay area.
Now I focus on my art with renewed excitement and joy! My favorite thing to do is to create large fantastical moths, flowers, wall hangings and unique clothing from vintage kimonos, old shawls, lace, trim, vintage/new fabric, and clothing that is no longer wearable.
